Red D are recruiting a General Manager for a large and busy four-star hotel in Cork. This is a senior leadership role for an experienced hotel professional with strong operational and commercial skills, particularly in Food & Beverage, weddings, and events.
The General Manager will take full ownership of the day-to-day operation and overall business performance. You’ll lead a committed senior team, support all departments, and work closely with sales and finance to drive quality, guest satisfaction and profitability. This is a hands-on role that requires confident leadership, strategic thinking and excellent communication.
Key Responsibilities
Operations

  • Oversee all departments to ensure consistent four-star product and service delivery
  • Drive quality through team leadership, guest feedback and continuous improvement
  • Lead all internal meetings including weekly HODs and monthly strategy sessions
  • Maintain excellent standards across accommodation, public areas, events and dining
  • Develop the Food & Beverage offer in collaboration with the kitchen and service teams
  • Ensure all IT systems are functioning and support the needs of the business
  • Support sustainability initiatives and energy reduction efforts
  • Maintain high standards in building upkeep and implement a robust maintenance plan

Sales & Marketing

  • Oversee the implementation of the hotel’s sales and marketing strategy
  • Maximise room yield and drive revenue across all departments
  • Promote the F&B and events offering in-house and locally
  • Grow the wedding and events business through proactive planning and client engagement
  • Attend sales events and represent the hotel as needed, both locally and abroad

Finance

  • Lead budget and business plan development with the senior team
  • Produce rolling forecasts and ensure all teams are informed and accountable
  • Monitor payroll and departmental spend to ensure alignment with budgets
  • Oversee procurement, capital projects and stock management
  • Review and respond to key reports including P&L, debtor listings, cash discrepancies and KPI results
  • Benchmark pricing and performance against local competitors

HR & Training

  • Promote a positive workplace culture with open communication and clear leadership
  • Ensure full compliance with all training, HR policies and employee development plans
  • Support management training, succession planning and appraisal processes
  • Champion internal development programmes and continuous learning
  • Foster high levels of motivation and engagement through regular feedback and recognition
  • Oversee staff facilities, staff meals and overall team wellbeing

Health & Safety

  • Ensure the hotel meets all health, fire and food safety standards
  • Oversee regular audits and ensure readiness for inspections
  • Maintain and review risk assessments and ensure compliance with legislation
  • Ensure effective accident reporting and follow-up
  • Manage contractor compliance and safety documentation for maintenance and systems

Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven experience as General Manager of a busy four-star hotel
  • Strong background in Food & Beverage and events
  • Calm, confident and people-focused leader
  • Excellent commercial awareness and financial capability
  • Hands-on operator with a genuine passion for Irish hospitality
