General Manager | Leading Hostel | Dublin City Centre
Base Salary: €65,000 + Annual Bonus Potential of up to €20,000

Red D are recruiting an experienced General Manager to lead a busy, high-profile hostel in Dublin city centre.

This is a hands-on senior leadership role with overall responsibility for the property, its people, guest experience, sales and commercial performance.
We are looking for a General Manager with a strong Rooms Division background, excellent people skills and the commercial ability to drive the business forward. You’ll understand the relationship between rooms performance, occupancy, pricing, reservations, guest experience and revenue, while also being a confident leader who can get the best from a diverse team.

The General Manager will be highly visible across the operation, leading and developing the team while maintaining strong standards throughout the property. This role needs someone who can bring people with them, communicate well and create a positive working culture with clear expectations and accountability.

There is also a significant sales and commercial focus. The successful General Manager will understand the Dublin market, drive occupancy and revenue, actively develop new business and build relationships across key markets including groups, tours, education, corporate and international travel.

The Role
As General Manager, you’ll have overall responsibility for:

• Leading the day-to-day management and overall performance of the hostel
• Taking particular ownership of Rooms Division, including front office, reservations, housekeeping and the guest journey
• Driving occupancy, room revenue and overall commercial performance
• Monitoring booking patterns, demand, pricing and availability
• Working closely with reservations and relevant commercial functions to maximise revenue opportunities
• Recruiting, managing, motivating and developing the team
• Building a positive culture with strong communication and clear accountability
• Maintaining excellent operational and guest service standards
• Managing staffing levels, rotas, payroll and labour costs
• Developing and implementing sales activity to generate new business
• Building relationships with group organisers, tour operators, schools, colleges, travel partners and other potential clients
• Growing direct bookings, repeat business and group business
• Managing budgets, costs and financial performance
• Monitoring guest feedback and ensuring issues are dealt with quickly and professionally
• Ensuring the property is well presented, safe and compliant
• Working closely with ownership and senior management on business performance, sales and future opportunities

What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a commercially minded General Manager with a strong Rooms Division background and the leadership ability to take ownership of a busy Dublin city-centre operation.

You should bring:

• Strong Rooms Division experience gained within a hostel, hotel or high-volume accommodation business
• A strong understanding of front office, reservations, housekeeping and guest experience
• Previous senior operational or General Manager experience
• Excellent leadership and people management skills
• Experience managing, motivating and developing a diverse team
• A strong understanding of occupancy, room revenue, pricing and demand
• Commercial awareness with the ability to identify and act on opportunities to grow the business
• Strong sales ability and the confidence to actively develop new business
• Experience working with groups and different customer segments
• Good financial management skills, including budgets, payroll and cost control
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• A hands-on leadership style and willingness to be highly visible throughout the property

Previous hostel management experience would be an advantage, but it isn’t essential. A strong Rooms Division Manager, Director of Rooms, Hotel Manager, Deputy General Manager or General Manager with the right leadership and commercial experience could also be a very good fit.

The Opportunity
With a base salary of €65,000 plus annual bonus potential of up to €20,000, this is an attractive opportunity for an ambitious hospitality leader who wants genuine responsibility for both the operation and commercial performance of the business.
It will suit someone who understands accommodation operations inside out, enjoys leading people and has the sales and commercial instincts to grow occupancy, revenue and market share.
