Red D are recruiting a Canteen Cook / Assistant for a leading corporate client.

If you’re an experienced Cook who loves working with fresh food but would like your evenings and weekends back, this is a seriously attractive opportunity.

Working 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 9.15am to 2.15pm, the Canteen Cook / Assistant will take responsibility for preparing and serving a fresh, varied lunch offering for approximately 100 people each day.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys cooking, likes having ownership of their kitchen and takes real pride in serving good, wholesome food. You’ll plan menus, prepare hot and cold dishes, manage stock and ordering and keep the kitchen and canteen running to excellent standards.

With a salary of €22,000 plus bonus, excellent daytime hours and a particularly strong benefits package, this is a very attractive part-time opportunity.

The Role

As Canteen Cook / Assistant, you will:

• Plan, prepare and serve a varied daily lunch offering of hot and cold dishes
• Create healthy, nutritious and balanced menus
• Cook with fresh ingredients and minimise the use of processed foods wherever possible
• Prepare lunch efficiently for approximately 100 people each day
• Manage portion control, stock usage and food waste
• Order from approved suppliers and maintain appropriate stock levels
• Manage the canteen within the agreed budget
• Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen, canteen, coffee area, kitchenettes and food preparation areas
• Ensure food is stored correctly and safely
• Maintain HACCP procedures and complete all required food safety documentation
• Ensure compliance with food hygiene, health and safety requirements
• Provide catering for occasional small meetings and internal events
• Maintain supplies in kitchenettes and complete weekly stock checks
• Participate in relevant training and development

What We Are Looking For

This Canteen Cook / Assistant role would suit someone with approximately 3 to 5 years’ cooking experience gained in a staff restaurant, workplace canteen, hotel, restaurant or similar busy kitchen.

You should have:

• Level 2 HACCP certification
• Experience preparing food for good daily volumes, ideally around 75 to 100 people
• Good knowledge of food, nutrition and balanced menu planning
• Experience with portion control and managing food costs
• Strong food preparation and cooking skills
• Good knowledge of kitchen equipment and safe working practices
• Excellent standards of hygiene and cleanliness
• Strong organisational skills
• A friendly, outgoing and professional manner
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to work independently while being part of a wider team
